Boroughmuir FP Culture and HIstorical Club

In response to creating an additional Club to the core Sports within the Boroughmuir Family, I am inviting members and friends of the Association and the School to participate in, contribute to and become part of a Cultural and Historical Club.

It will be open to all ages and particularly current Pupils at the School. This invitation extends also to the School teaching staff, especially those involved in teaching Historical and Cultural areas of the curriculum.

The focus will be on the culture and history of Edinburgh highlighting the influences on our learning, development and life in our City through ; The Architectural History of buildings in Edinburgh. Life in Edinburgh from 1120 onwards. The citizens and notaries who shaped our living environment. The effects of Religion, Royalty and Politics in Edinburgh's development and History. Our Schools contribution to our City and beyond through its Former Pupils and staff.

I already have an interim programme of events that can be adapted and modified if required, these include touch and sensory tours where permitted for the partially sighted and blind, in partnership with Euan's Guide, and will be on a monthly basis and run from the 1st of September to the 30th of June. The programme will be a combination of talks, tours and visits to sites throughout the City. They can be adapted and modified dependent on your response and appetite to it's membership.

As an extensive Volunteer Guide throughout the City there will only be a cost factor dependent on the host organisation, however I can say that a negotiated reduction has been agreed of 50% for members of the Association. Programme from 1st of September to 31st of December.

  • September. Visit and Tour to St. Giles Cathedral.
  • October. From the Castle to the Lawnmarket, its importance and history. This is mostly an outdoor tour.
  • November. Tour and visit to the extensively refurbished Riddles Court, Lawn Market.
  • December. Visit to The Georgian House, featuring a living history tour, great for all ages.

Please note that some of these environments may be restricted for those with mobility or Disabled Access due to the nature of the building. Please contact me with your interest, views and comments on this Club proposal on, 0131 447 6485.

I look forward to hearing from you.
